Maintaining good health

Diabetes is a complex disease. Everyone is potentially at risk of developing the disease although certain risk factors such as a family history of diabetes do increase your risk.

Maintaining good health is essential for everyone, whether you are at risk or not, and especially if you have been diagnosed with diabetes.

The effective management of diabetes involves:

  • eating a healthy diet,
  • managing your medicines correctly,
  • getting appropriate additional physical activity, and
  • meeting regularly with members of your health care team

It also will help you greatly if you are able to maintain a positive outlook on life.

In this section we have included healthy eating tips as well as some information on getting regular physical activity.
